The 9th Age of Literati Culture Festival’s grand opening took place at the Markham Civic Center on October 26, 2024. Generations of enthusiasts gathered to celebrate this annual cultural event with elegance and joy.
Warm Welcomes and Community Support
Ms. Yanyan Zhu, Chair of Canada One Family Network (COFN), extended a warm welcome to cultural and educational organizations, inviting them to participate in the festival’s large-scale classical music performance. She expressed heartfelt thanks to the Department of Heritage Canada and the City of Markham for their generous support, as well as to the co-organizers and sponsors from the community.
Councilor Amanda Yeung Collucci, on behalf of the Mayor of Markham, delivered a congratulatory speech, celebrating the festival's success.
Councilors Isa Lee and Richel Liu were also in attendance to offer their congratulations.
MP Jean Yip sent a congratulatory letter on behalf of the federal government.
Mr. Xiangmin Li, COFN’s first director and a calligraphy artist, encouraged young people to embrace the art of Literati calligraphy and painting at the calligraphy and painting gathering.
Representing the festival’s co-organizers, Ringo Chen from the Canadian Art Appreciation Association and Hong Chen from the North American Asia Cultural Association extended their warm congratulations.
Cultural Lectures and Performances
The festival introduced new-generation MCs Amira Qianchen Yi and Jackie Lu, who presented Su Fang, President of the Atlantic Calligraphy Association, for a special lecture on calligraphy art.
Children's poetry recitation performances showcased young talents:

"Four Spring Poems" by Li Siyuan
"Song of Wine" by Wang Zi
"Modern and Classical Essays" by Wang Wen
"Remembrance of Red Cliffs" by Fu Aimei
Tea Ceremony: A Tribute to Song Dynasty Aesthetics
This year’s tea ceremony featured Song Dynasty tea culture. Ms. Wen Lijie from Ming Tea's Training introduced the tradition of Dian Cha (whisked tea), offering insights into the profound lifestyle aesthetics of the Song era.
Accompanied by the Southern Song classic Xiao Xiang Shui Yun, performed on the guqin by Yanyan Zhu, Wen Lijie demonstrated the Four Elegances: incense burning, flower arranging, painting hanging, and tea making, creating a serene and immersive experience.
Zhu continued with captivating performances of Liang Xiao Yin (composed by General He Ruobi of the Sui and Tang dynasties) and Ping Sha Luo Yan from the Ming Dynasty, enchanting the audience.
Art Exhibitions and Musical Ambiance
Xiangmin Li’s calligraphy and the children’s painting exhibition drew many visitors, with demonstrations of calligraphy, seal engraving, and hand-drawn artworks receiving high praise.
Chen Zhuo’s piano performance filled the city hall with a romantic and artistic ambiance.
Ongoing Competitions
The festival’s theme, "Simply Arts," continues with an online poetry recital and painting competition. Submissions are accepted until October 31.

Upcoming Classical Music Concert and Award Ceremony
A grand classical music concert and award ceremony will take place on November 3, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Flato Markham Theatre. This concert will showcase local artists performing traditional Literati music, symphonic compositions, dance, martial arts, and other art forms, celebrating the fusion of world cultural heritage and contemporary art.

专题讲座与精彩表演
大西洋书法家协会会长苏方 为观众带来书法艺术专题讲座,由新生代主持人 易阡辰 和 Jackie Lu 介绍。
少儿诗文朗诵作品展演中,孩子们精彩诵读了经典与现代作品:

付艾米:《念奴娇·赤壁怀古》
今年的茶道讲座以 宋式点茶 为主题,由 文俪洁 来自 明茗堂 Ming Tea's Training 主讲,展示了宋代“点茶”文化的美学与修心养性之道。随着古琴家 朱彦晏 弹奏的《潇湘水云》悠扬琴声,文俪洁完美呈现了中国四雅:焚香、插花、挂画、点茶,带来一场静心的茶艺表演。
朱彦晏随后又演奏了隋唐名曲《良宵引》和明代经典《平沙落雁》,让现场观众沉浸在古琴的韵味中。
艺术展览与音乐氛围
李祥民先生 的诗书艺术展与少儿绘画作品展吸引了大量参观者。
书法、篆刻、手绘作品的现场展示和演示备受欢迎。
陈卓 演奏的钢琴曲为展厅营造了浪漫氛围。
网络比赛进行中
本届艺术节主题为 《简约之美》,相关的网络诗文朗诵大赛与绘画艺术大赛正在进行,上传通道将于 10月31日 关闭。
终极盛宴:古典音乐会预告
《简约之艺》音乐会 将于 2024年11月3日 18:30-20:30 在 万锦剧院 上演。本次音乐会汇聚了本地艺术家及多个艺术教育机构,如 多伦多雅乐艺术中心、红枫华乐团、CAST青年交响乐团、MOMA艺术中心、MK Singing School、Dan Drama中文小剧场 和 晓磊琵琶工作室 等。表演内容涵盖传统雅乐、交响乐、舞蹈、武术等,展现传统文化与当代艺术的精彩碰撞。
